6. ALONG A TREE-LINED AVENUE

He rolls in the wheelchair like a madman around the area, up and down the street, between the trees, and along the sidewalk. He rides/drives into the opposite lane, which, at the time, is free of traffic, sets his watch and then starts feverishly propelling the wheelchair.

The previous scene is replayed.

As Thomas regains consciousness, and sees the beautiful Sandra, he can’t believe his eyes. On the one hand, he is in pain, but on the other hand, he revels in the compassionate look from Sandra.

SANDRA

Are you all right?

She attempts to help him into the wheelchair, and he tries to make himself comfortable.

THOMAS

Yes, I think so.

SANDRA

Do you need to see a doctor?

The driver attempts to get out of the car, reconsiders and speeds away, fleeing the scene.

THOMAS

No, I think I’ll be alright.
I’m Thomas, and you are?

SANDRA

Sandra

As she notices an abrasion on his arm, she decides to push him in the wheelchair.

SANDRA

How did the accident happen?

THOMAS

You know, drivers see us as an interference and an obstacle. They don’t watch out for us.

7. IN SANDRA’S APARTMENT

They are in an old, luxurious and bright apartment with high-ceilings. Thomas, in the wheelchair, looks around amazed at the apartment, while Sandra attends to his wound.

THOMAS

Pretty nice place. Do you have it all to yourself?

SANDRA

My father pays for it. He owns the casino in Kleinbach. He said I can stay here for as long as I like.

THOMAS

Not bad. So, what do you do when you’re not shopping?

SANDRA

In three weeks, I’ll be finishing my studies in marketing, after which, I’ll be spending three months in Marseille to improve my French.

Thomas starts to flirt with her

THOMAS

Are you seeing anyone?

Somewhat surprised, Sandra turns toward him.

THOMAS

I’d be envious of him.

Sandra, somewhat confidentially.

SANDRA

I’m not seeing anyone. It’s been quite a while since I’ve had a decent boyfriend. I guess I got fed up with the “dating scene”. You can’t even have a normal conversation with a guy. In my opinion, they always want the same thing

Sandra, realizes that she’s talking with a guy.

SANDRA

Sorry, I didn’t mean every guy...

Thomas looks around at his wheelchair.

THOMAS

There’s no danger of that with me . . .

There is a knock at the door. Sandra enters the hallway to the front door to the apartment, which Thomas is in full view of.

SANDRA (to Thomas)

- I’ll be right back.
