OLIVER

They’re fantastic!

THOMAS

I know. I was pretty impressed with them while they were practicing, earlier this week.

OLIVER

You were at the practice sessions?

THOMAS

Yeah...yeah, I was.

Thomas notices as Sandra and her mother enter the room. His jaw drops. Sandra looks prettier than he has ever seen her before. Oliver sees her, as well, as she enters from across the room. She walks over and gives her father a kiss on the forehead. He introduces her to the guests around him. After a little while, Franco notices Thomas und Oliver, and comes over. Sandra watches her father and recognizes the two of them. Thomas's gaze is fixed on Sandra, and reveals both misery and undying live. Franco draws Thomas back from his reverie.

FATHER

Hello, boys. Thomas – I take it this is your friend.

Franco smirks at Thomas.

THOMAS

Hi there. This is Oliver. We’re in the same class, together.

OLIVER

Nice to meet you, Mr...?

THOMAS

... Puccianti.

FATHER

Please, call me Franco. Thomas, your recommendation was perfect. The band is outstanding!

THOMAS

Fortunately.

FATHER

Looks like you found your way to the bar? If you get hungry, help yourself to the buffet. Have as much as you like; there’s plenty for everyone.

THOMAS

Appreciate it. I haven’t got much of an appetite.

FATHER

I still need to say ‘Hi’ to a few people, so maybe I’ll see you both later. You’re more than welcome to find a seat.

After a little while, Franco goes up on stage and Ricky hands him the microphone.

FATHER

Good evening. I’d like to welcome all of you here, tonight. I won’t bore you now with a speech, I’ll save that for later. First of all, I’d like to introduce the entertainment for this evening - Ricky and his band. You should know that, when he’s not on stage, Ricky runs a bar downtown that’s worth visiting.

He gives the microphone back to Ricky.

FATHER

Hit it, boys.

The music continues. Most of guests are slowly seated at the tables. Sandra is sitting with her parents. Thomas and Oliver are still standing in the same corner. Ricky speaks into the microphone

RICKY

Okay, this next song is acapella. We’re playing it this evening for the first time.

The band sings, “It’s alright”. As they finish singing and the applause start to fade, Ricky says:

RICKY

Thank you. Thank you very much. That song was written especially for this evening.

Further applause.

RICKY

Thank you, so much. This next song goes out to someone here tonight, someone special. It will be sung by a certain Thomas.

Oliver looks amazed at Thomas, whose heart is in his throat. Sandra looks in amazement and wonder at her father, who also appears to be surprised. Thomas slowly walks toward the stage, and Oliver whispers to him:

OLIVER

Go get ‘em.
