Sandra and Thomas laugh. Sandra puts her arm around Thomas, who is pushing the wheelchair. They walk towards Adrian’s shop. As they approach:

THOMAS

The first time we met, I was attempting to break a record, but I was foiled because of the car. Adrian’ll probably never lend me a wheelchair again. Oh, well.

SANDRA

Do you want to take it for one last spin? Go ahead, I don’t mind.

Thomas is not sure, and tries to turn back, but Sandra genuinely appears to have nothing against it. She leans against the wall, in love once again, and looks at him with a smile on her face, as he sits down in the ‘racecar’ and sets his watch. He takes off. The street is clear. He picks up speed. Suddenly, a car comes out of an parking lot, onto the street. At the last moment, Thomas tries to turn away, applies the brakes, and collides with a dumpster, alongside the curb. Sandra is horrified and runs over to him. The driver is also horrified, gets out, and helps Thomas back into the wheelchair.

DRIVER

My God. Are you alright? I didn’t see you back there, I only looked in the other direction.

Sandra comes running up.

SANDRA

I just saw what happened. Don’t you watch for traffic when you’re making a turn?

DRIVER

I-I, I’m sorry, I just wasn’t paying attention, really.

SANDRA

My boyfriend is already handicapped because of another careless driver like you. Were you trying to finish him off?

DRIVER

Good grief, please listen to me, miss, I had no intention of killing anyone! Aye, can I help you somehow? Can I call an ambulance for you?

THOMAS

Ah, I’ve got pain in my leg.

SANDRA

But darling, there’s no way you could have pain in your legs.

THOMAS

Exactly, I’m telling you that I have feelings in my leg.

Thomas enjoys the performance, and as if a miracle had happened, he slowly gets up out of the wheelchair. The driver acts as if he’s losing his mind.

THOMAS

I can walk!! I can walk, dear friend. You’ve cured me from my suffering! I could kiss you!

DRIVER

Aye, aye, aye, whoa, I ... aye, aye.

The man start to get anxious, gets back in his car, and drives off. Thomas and Sandra laugh out loud, and find the whole spectacle quite funny. Thomas is squeezing his thigh. He’s in pain.

THOMAS

My leg hurts!

SANDRA

Ha, ha, ha. The poor guy’s eyes were so big. You should be an actor.

THOMAS

No, my leg really hurts...

SANDRA

That’s enough, the guy’s already gone. Ha, ha, ha.
